The Wildland Firefighter Foundation is a non-profit that helps firefighters and their families when an injury or death occurs.
It was established in 1999, after the 1994 Storm King Fire in Colorado, when 14 wildland firefighters died in a single tragic event. Since then, the WFF has provided emergency support services to the families of firefighters, seriously injured or killed in the line of duty. Families left behind, many with young children, often find themselves with few resources, and the Foundation steps in to help.
The WFF does this by providing grief specialists, logistical and financial support after an accident or death, trauma, PTSD and wellness counseling, suicide prevention and resiliance, a dedicated fund during the holidays to help families in financial hardship, and funding for memorials and monuments to recognize wildland firefighters across the country, including establishing and maintaining the Wildland Firefighters National Monument at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) in Boise, Idaho.
